Ronaldo Bastos Ribeiro was born in Niterói (RJ), in January 21st, 1948. Son of Vicente Belo Ribeiro and Mariana Bastos Ribeiro, he has three siblings. As a child, he dreamt of being a singer. During his studies at Pedro II School, in Rio de Janeiro, initiated his relation with lyrics. When studying History at the Faculdade Nacional de Filosofia do Rio de Janeiro (Rio de Janeiro National Philosophy College), he was introduced to Milton Nascimento. With the song “Três Pontas”, initiated his partnership with Milton, which would bring classic songs such as “Fé Cega, Faca Amolada” (“Blind Faith, Sharpened Knife”), “Nada Será Como Antes” (“Nothing will be like before”) and “Cravo e Canela” (Clove and Cinnamon”). He abandoned the History school and, later, majored in Journalism at the Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro – UFRJ (Rio de Janeiro Federal University – RJFU). He was part of the marginal poetry group “Nuvem Cigana” (Gipsy Cloud). He contributed to the album Clube da Esquina as a songwriter, cover designer and producer. Throughout his professional trajectory he was also a partner of Tom Jobim, Caetano Veloso and Lulu Santos, with whom he wrote the hit “Um certo alguém” (“A certain someone”). Along with the songwriting, he dedicated himself to the career of music producer and in 1994 created the label Dubas.
